American Studies Center At the initiative of the Department of International Relations, in partnership with the Chair of Foreign Languages and Trans- lations, the American Studies Center at OYU was created recently (early-October 2010), as well as the American Center’s Corner for the display of books and magazines from the USA in the university library. The MISSION of the Center is to encourage a greater understanding of the United States, its history and people through the study and research, conversations and discussions in areas of American culture and society.Later, Conversation Club was organized, which is functioning on Sundays for those students who would like to improve their English language skills for more active participation in actions of the American Studies Center. Discus- sions-meetings are regularly held with the students (usually on Thursdays), who participate in the USA Embassy weekly sessions scheduled to take place on Fridays at the American Center, which is housed at the Azerbaijan University of Languages.Today, there are two types of participants at the American Studies Center. The basic one is a group of students, mostly belonging to the department of Translation and Pedagogy, and English Division of Business and Management department; they are: Kamala Mustafayeva; Fidan Zulfugarli; Shahriyar Huseynzadeh; Vasif Aydamirov; Samir Islamzadeh; Kamil Nasibov; Gulai Gasımzadeh; Rasul Baghırov; Subhi Maharramli; Narmina Rahimova; Nadir Mammadov; Kanan Huseynov; Farid Mammadov; Javanshir Aliyev; Adil Hajıyev; Orkhan Shahbazov; Parvin Jabiyeva; Seymur Aghammadov; Aykhan Khalilov; Vasila Zeynalova (manager of International Relations Department and American Studies Center); Sabuhi Dadashov (senior manager of International Re-lations Department, American Studies Center). The aforementioned students help also as volunteers in American Studies Center ac-tivities. Alongside with this group, there is another large group of students and teachers, who are interested in participating in the Center’s actions. The Embassy of the USA in Baku has presented to the Center two boxes with valuable books and magazines. These books and magazines are available both in the Center, and in the university library. |
