THE WAY WE PASSED THROUGH
Odlar Yurdu University (OYU) is a private higher education institution. The University has seven-storied 9000 square meters modern building; occupied territory around of the University is about 8000 square meters. Higher education in OYU has the following structure: basic two-level highest vocational training, which is carried out consistently as four-year-old baccalaureate, completed with receiving of the bachelor degree and the two-year-term magistracy, completed with master degree diploma; and, following magistracy, post graduate three-year education to carry out scientific researches, which is completed by receiving a candidate's degree or PhD.
The University has strict standards and a high reputation. Odlar Yurdu University is proud by its more than 2250 students, about 200 professors/lecturers, 11 chairs, department of magistracy and postgraduate study, and five faculties, including faculty of Business and Management, faculty of Mathematics, Information and Technology, faculty of Translation and Pedagogy, faculty of Law and International Relations, faculty of Medicine. There are 19 foreign students, 720 external students and a group of 51 students who are involved in MBA and EMBA program, run jointly with the Lincoln University, the USA. Among graduates of the University in 2010, the number of bachelors has made 711 and masters – 14. Our 10 post graduate students have defended the PhD thesis.
Chronology of formation
- November 10th, 1995 – The State High Expert Commission inspected Odlar Yurdu University and gave its approval.
- July 8th, 1996 – Based on the approval of the State High Expert Commission, Odlar Yurdu University passed the state registration under Resolution No. 86 of the Cabinet of Ministers.
- October 16th, 1996 – By Certificate No 5 of the Ministry of Justice of the Azerbaijan Republic, the university got a legal entity status.
- November 27th, 1998 – By License No 022011, AB series, issued by the Ministry of Press and Information of the Azerbaijan Republic, the university got a permission to carry out printing activity.
- February 10th, 1999 – By License No 022338, AB series, issued by the Ministry of Press and Information of the Azerbaijan Republic, the university got a permission to print out and distribute the “Scientific and Pedagogical News of Odlar Yurdu University” journal.
- February 10th, 1999 – By License No 022339, AB series, issued by the Ministry of Press and Information of the Azerbaijan Republic, the university got a permission to print out and distribute the “Odlar Yurdu University” newspaper.
- June 12th, 1999 – By License No 019004, AB series, issued by the Ministry of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic, the university got a permission to carry out the training of students at a bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and at the same time, to start the functioning of a Secondary Vocational Education College and a Secondary General Education Innovations School at the university.
- Since 2001, Odlar Yurdu University has joined the International Universities Association as a full member.
- February 14th, 2003 – By Approval No 46-03-662/17 of the Ministry of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic, the university got a permission to engage with a joint training of students on a master’s degree in “Business administration” together with Georgia University of the USA.
- October 29th, 2003 – By Approval No 46-03-4911/17 of the Ministry of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic, a preparatory faculty formed in order to help foreign students.
- August 2nd, 2004 – By Approval No 685 of the Ministry of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic, the university got a permission to train personnel as Ph.Ds and candidates of sciences.
- September 13th, 2004 – Odlar Yurdu University signed an agreement with Georgia University about a joint BBA program (a bachelor’s degree program on Business Administration), and as of 2005, admission of students to the BBA program started.
- July 25th, 2005 – By Order No 593 of the Ministry of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic, the term of validity of the permissions (licenses) issued to Odlar Yurdu University, and also the Secondary Vocational Education College and Secondary General Education Innovations School, functioning at the university, were extended.
- 2005 – A Secondary General Education Innovations School, Baku British School, began functioning at the university.
- June 14th, 2006 – By Order No 474 of the Ministry of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic, based on a relevant resolution of the accreditation commission of the Azerbaijan Republic, an accreditation and a certificate were issued to Odlar Yurdu University and the educational institutions opened under its auspices.
- In 2009, Odlar Yurdu University joined the TEMPUS program (Trans Euro-pean Mobility Plan for University Studies), which is the fourth project of the European Commission. During 2009-2011, it took part in the organization of a network of international relations offices in Azerbaijan, a project developed by the European Commission for the South Caucasus. Along with Odlar Yurdu University, the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, the Azerbaijan Medical University, Caucasus University, and also the below-listed leading universities from Europe participate in this program: GERMANY - Siegen University; FRANCE - Nice-Sophia Antipolis University; ITALY – Genoa University; POLAND - Bydgoszcz University Of Technology And Life Sciences and GREECE - National Technical University Of Athens.
- September 23rd, 2010 – Odlar Yurdu University and Suleyman Demirel University signed a bilateral cooperation agreement on the creation of a Heydar Aliyev Faculty with a view of joint training of students.
